Engineered Arts, based in Cornwall

I tend to think of Cornwall mainly as the place that I like to go on holiday. Cornwall is also the place where the Robot Club began (very briefly) back in the 1960s. There is much talk about unemployment in the county, and also how much the Cornish people rely on income from tourism in the summer months. Because of all this, I was rather surprised to learn of Engineered Arts, an advanced robotics company founded in 2004 and based near Falmouth.

If you have been to the Eden Project in Cornwall you will have seen an example of Engineered Arts early work, the Mechanical Theatre, which involved three figures with story lines focused on genetic modification.

RoboThespian, born in Cornwall

These days they produce RoboThespian, a life sized humanoid robot designed for human interaction. It is fully interactive, multilingual, and user-friendly. RoboThespian is now in its third generation with more than six years of continuous development.
