Germany beaten in Brazil world football cup …

RoboCup final Brazil 2014Australia took revenge on Germany for their defeat in the human world cup by beating them in the robot world cup. The exciting (at times) and rather funny video attached shows the game which was quite rough with robots falling and bumping into each other. The final result was 5-1 to Australia. Apparently every year the robots get better, and great things are expected for the next tournament.
The RoboCup was founded in 1997 with the ultimate goal of developing a robot team good enough to beat the human champions by 2050 . . . there is some way to go yet, but things are moving fast. The teams all have to use the same robots, and these are required to operate autonomously without external human or computer control. The model used this year was the Nao from Aldebaran Robotics.
